RetroClinic External Dual Removable CF Hard Drive Kit

[Back ]

Description

The RetroClinic External Dual Removable CF Hard Drive Kit is a fully self contained Dual Solid State Hard Drive, that allows you to fit 2 Compact Flash cards simultaneously, to give your BBC Computer up to 2 GB of storage space. Compact Flash cards give the advantage of smaller lighter unit, no noise, no spin up time, and faster access speeds, with greater reliability than their spinning platter counterpart. The drive itself is around the same size as an external 2.5" USB style drive you would use on your PC, measuring only 93mm wide, by 155mm deep and 35mm high, and is in the same "BBC Cream" colour casing.

Where to Buy

Further details, including how to buy, are available from RetroClinic.com. The External Dual Removable CF Hard Drive Kit may no longer be available from RetroClinic as it has been removed from the website.

The CF drive has a 16Mbyte CF card in it and is attached to the Masters 1 MHz bus. On the right the RFS HDINIT CF_FORM ROM is installed in a Care Electronics Master ROM cartridge. I keep it in a cartridge because it is only needed when a new CF card is formatted. On the screen you can see the contents of the CF drive (copied from the 5¼" floppy disc and the output from *FREE showing 7+ MB free space. Because the interface is 8 bits wide it can only use half the capacity of the compact flash card.
