You should also have a floppy drive connected to your fileserver machine. Turn on the fileserver, place the utility disc in the floppy drive and type: *DISC *BASIC CHAIN•UPDATEW• The screen should then display ”Copying Fileserver Code• After about 2 minutes this will change to ”Code Copied• Once this is done, quit out of the program, and type : *ADFS *BYE Now turn off the winchester and machine, then turn them back on, the system should now startup as before. Log on as a system privileged user from a station that has a floppy drive, and go into the $ directory. Put the utility disc in the drive and type : *DISC *BASIC CHAIN•UPDATEN• You will see on the screen: FS Library + Utils Retrieval Utility ************************************************ Q] Quit L] Library U] Utility A] All (Library, Utilities and Welcome) Select A (all) from this menu. This will then copy all the necessary files onto the fileserver. Once it has finished it will return to the above menu. From here select Q to quit. Useful information 1. When logged on as a system privileged user, DO NOT FORGET TO LOG OFF. 2. Take an Archive at least once a month. 3. Delete all unused files, directories and users. 4. Always have two priv users. The one that you normally use and a backup. They should be hidden in a subdirectory i.e. user SYSTMANAGE.LIBRARY with a password like your date of birth i.e. 291045. 5. Change your priv password once a week, using obscure passwords like dates. 6. Make *REMOTE, *NOTIFY, and netmon priv only utilities by setting their access to LR. 7. If you think that an unauthorised person has priv status contact Acorn Support. 8. Check files in user directories that are called things like PWget, Pword, etc. 9. Make sure users do not have access to the fileserver. Main Econet Error Codes NO. ERROR 9 There is no network interface or a faulty network interface in the fileserver. B Writing to sector Zero, usually caused by a corrupt disc. 21 Cannot find Password file. See note. 29 Password file of wrong type. See note. 36 Password file wrong size. See note. 42 Broken directory. See note. Note For these errors you will need to reformat your winchester and re-install the software. If you do not have an archive, or have enough time you can write to Acorn on headed paper, stating what has happened as we may be able to re-build the password file with a special program and retrieve the data on the winchester. If you have any problems with your network, then please write to Acorn giving as much detail as you can. Such as type of fileserver, machines on the network, NFS, ANFS versions, length of network, number of machines, etc. For education users there is a special hotline on which you can get technical help on all Acorn products.
