PR91/28.3.95 Embargoed until 1st April 1995 Acorn and Tesco Computers for Schools Aims High For '95 Acorn Computers, the leading supplier of computers to schools, is joining forces with Tesco for the fourth year running on Tesco Computers for Schools. The UK's most successful promotion linking industry and education, which gives schools the chance to add to their IT and learning resources, runs this year from 24th April to 2nd July with an exciting new range of Acorn products and a wider choice of equipment than ever before. With the focus this year on multimedia, the 1995 catalogue includes Acorn's high performance Acorn Risc PC, offering outstanding graphics and multimedia capability and support for both Acorn and PC applications. A wide choice of audio-visual and authoring equipment is also available, including Acorn Replay sound and video products and Acorn PhotoView, which enables photos to be viewed and incorporated into multimedia applications, as well as a Canon Ion camera, a video digitiser and a Hitachi camcorder. Schools can also choose from three multimedia authoring software packages, the latest CD ROM hardware and a wide selection of curriculum CD ROMs. Also new to Tesco Computers for Schools '95 is a range of products specially selected with younger children in mind. Acorn's A3010 Early Years computer, with its selection of high quality software for the nursery or infant classroom, is just one of this year's 'Star Buys', requiring only 1,500 vouchers. The scheme also features Acorn's popular Pocket Book computer and a wide range of equipment for special education. Recognising the global impact of the Internet and its growing interest for schools, the scheme features InterTalk, Acorn's new electronic mail, Internet, World Wide Web and bulletin board access product. Other networking facilities include the easy-to-use Access products for simple sharing of resources between Acorn computers and OmniClient which allows Acorn computers to 'talk to' computers from other suppliers such as PCs and Macs. In addition, schools can take their pick from a wide range of software and CD ROMs from as little as 200 vouchers and disc wallets, dust covers and mouse mats from 100 vouchers. Teresa Downey, Tesco Computers for Schools Project Manager at Acorn, comments: "We are delighted to be able to offer such a wide choice of products this year and, with Tesco's recent acquisition of over 50 William Low stores in Scotland, we are expecting even more schools to take part in this year's scheme. Not only is Tesco Computers for Schools '95 bigger and better, it also offers excellent value, with Acorn computers starting from as few as 1,500 vouchers." Full information packs will go out to over 24,000 schools throughout England, Scotland and Wales in early April. Schools requiring additional packs or with general Tesco Computers for Schools enquiries can contact the Schools helpline on 0171 580 9370 or send an email to 'computers_for_scho...@entity.e-mail.com'.
