Acorn Launches Special Access Pack Release Date 23.9.92 Acorn Computers is using the Naidex 92 Exhibition for Special Needs as the venue for launching its new Special Access upgrade pack. Following on from the success of Acorn's BBC A3000 Special Access computer, this new pack allows any of Acorn's Archimedes computers to be modified at the time of purchase to allow a variety of switches and Concept or Overlay keyboards to be connected straight away. As well as a hardware expansion card, the pack also contains a suite of software designed specifically to help users with physical, auditory or visual difficulties. Accompanying the software disc is a manual with comprehensive instructions, but also supplied is a coupon, aimed particularly at those with poor eyesight, allowing users to obtain a free audio tape of the manual. Also supplied in the Special Access pack is "The Acorn A-Z of Special Needs" - compiled by Northwest SEMERC and the Northern ACE Centre - which is an indispensible reference guide to hardware, software and a multitude of support organisations working in the field of Special Needs. Acorn's Special Needs Co-ordinator, Vorn Hancock commented "With the arrival of Acorn's new Special Access pack, our award winning computers are now accessible to an even greater variety of users. Coupled with the excellent software base available for our machines, this pack delivers a means of empowerment for practically every Special Needs use.
