The Acorn Computer Group recently announced its entry into the interactive multimedia market with the launch of ONLINE MEDIA, a new operation within the Acorn Computer Group. Online Media, based in Cambridge, will bring affordable interactive multimedia products and services to the huge market emerging from the information superhighway. To achieve this aim, Online Media will be working with major players in this arena. The first of Online Media's products, the Online Media set-top box, has already generated interest from large communications providers such as Northern Telecom. In the future, Online Media plans to develop products relevant to the broader multimedia market. In order to achieve it's long term plans Online Media is seeking enthusiastic, energetic and committed candidates who are prepared to work under pressure to tight deadlines. We can offer an outlet for original and innovative ideas in design and implementation in a team which has a clear direction and whose members can identify their joint and individual contributions to the project outputs. We currently have the following specific vacancies:- 1. Software or Senior Software Engineer - Networking and File Systems (Ref SWE/N&FS) Strong degree in numerate subject. Experience of C programming, and assembler programming. Writing network protocol software and device drivers. Writing/designing suitable filing interface to the server Knowledge required of networking protocols and hardware. 2. Principal Software Engineer - Kernel and Operating System (Ref PSE/K) Strong degree in Computer Science. Experience of C programming and assembler programming. Experience of system programming (particularly OS Kernel programming). Writing/Porting a real time operating system kernel. Writing device drivers (IO, memory, time etc) Knowledge required of current operating systems and research. 3. Software or Senior Software Engineer - Asic Design, Simulation and Support (Ref SWE/AD) Strong degree in numerate subject. Designing, helping simulate and test ASIC Writing and Exercising the simulation of ASIC chips for designs. Experience Required of (co) designing a chip. VHDL/Verilog experience preferable. 4. Software or Senior Software Engineer - Graphics (Ref SWE/G) Strong degree in numerate subject. Experience of C programming and assembler programming Experience of 2D and 3D graphics rendering algorithms. Position will involve working on the whole of the RISC OS graphics system. 5. Senior Authoring Tools Developer (Ref ATD/DL) Strong degree in a numerate subject. Several years experience in the design and development of authoring tools for use by applications developers. Several years experience of producing high quality code in C and assembler. Position will involve the specification, design and development of a suite of state-of-the-art authoring tools for use by developers in writing application for set top boxes and interactive television services. 6. Software Engineer - Applications/Server Developer (Ref SWE/ASD/DL) Good degree in numerate subject. Several years experience in the design and development of innovative and successful application, ideally for RISC OS (other windows based operating systems will be considered). Several years experience of producing high quality code in C and assembler. The position will involve specifying, designing and developing innovative applications which will exploit to the full the hardware capabilities of the product on which they will run. Salaries are negotiable according to experience. None of the packages includes a company car. Relocation assistance will be offered where appropriate. The benefits package includes free BUPA cover, free Life Assurance and Permanent Health Insurance.
