Acorn Risc Technologies is pleased to announce that an abridged hard disc distribution image has been made available in beta to enable users to view almost all the text in the standard RISC OS desktop and applications in German. The distribution has had the Replay movies, JPEG images and tutorials, which ususally ship on the hard disc of a Risc PC, removed for reasons of space and predicted download time; the archive which is available occupies 5Mb, whereas an archive of an unabridged distribution would occupy 40MB for little extra benefit. This release is in beta form since Access+ and a small number of other message sets have yet to be translated; please forward comments on the standard of existing German translation to kbra...@art.acorn.co.uk The distribution may be downloaded from ftp.acorn.co.uk as a Spark archive; the file may be referenced as ftp.acorn.co.uk:/pub/riscos/releases/deutsch37beta.arc via anonymous ftp If you do not have access to SparkFS or SparkPlug with which to decompress this archive, a self-extracting copy of SparkPlug may be obtained as either ftp.acorn.co.uk:/pub/riscos/releases/dearchive.bas or http://www.art.acorn.co.uk/ftp/riscos/releases/dearchive.bas ; this file should be *SETTYPEd to BASIC and then run. To install the distribution, the !Boot, Apps, Diversions, Printing, Public and Utilities directories from the English hard disc distribution should be copied into a new directory and the abridged German distribution copied into the root directory on the hard disc which the system boots from; the computer should then be configured for German conventions by issuing *configure territory germany and rebooting.
