INDUSTRIAL PLACEMENT 
1 Year - starting this summer 

Acorn Computer Group supplies innovative technologies and consultancy 
through its complementary divisions.  The Acorn Computer Group 
includes: Acorn Online Media, Acorn Network Computing and Acorn Risc 
Technologies.  Acorn also has a 43% share holding in Advanced RISC 
Machines (Holdings) Limited and has 50% ownership of Xemplar 
Education Limited, a new joint venture company combining both Acorn 
and Apple's education businesses, which has been created to be the 
leading solutions provider to UK education. 

We employ approximately 150 staff. The Company is 17 years old with a 
turnover iro £40M. Acorn's UK operation is totally Cambridge-based. 
This placement reports to our Corporate Affairs Manager, based Acorn 
House, Newmarket Road, Cambridge. 

The Placement 

*       Knowledge or experience of electronic publishing and 
        graphical design, preferably in an IT environment. 

*       Flair for design and creativity. 

*       IT literate with good analytical, organisational, presentation 
        and communication skills. 

*       Mature, self-motivated with a positive attitude - able to:- 

                - deliver solutions in a fast changing environment 
                - adapt and achieve within tight deadlines 
                - work on their own as well as part of a team 
                -  find solutions to problems 

*       Must be willing to travel and possess and full, clean driving licence. 

Specific Roles 

GROUP WORD WIDE WEB PROJECT 

i)      Planning and constructing WWW site and documents contained within it. 

ii)     Creating new resources - collating existing printed material, 
        sourcing electronic formats, adapting where necessary. 

iii)    Exploiting existing resources - identifying what is available, downloading 
        or summarising material, distributing material. 

iv)     Managing and developing an 'in-house web-site', to complement the external 
        site currently being re-developed. 

COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT 

*       Identifying, selecting, and editing material as appropriate. 
*       Presenting material in a suitable form. 
*       Liaison with divisional teams. 

EVENT SUPPORT 

Providing support in the implementation of exhibitions as appropriate.   

The Package 

The salary for this placement will be in the region of GBP8.5K.  In 
addition, you will receive 22 days paid annual leave plus statutory 
and bank holidays.  Staff discount is available for the purchase of 
Acorn products.
