News from Acorn Computers - Release Date: 8th July 1994 Online Media to Work with Oracle on Interactive TV Developments =============================================================== Online Media, the latest member of the Acorn Computer Group, today announced that it has agreed with Oracle, the world's leading supplier of information management software, to cooperate in the development and marketing of key technologies and solutions for the emerging interactive TV market. Under the agreement, Online Media will implement support for Oracle Media Objects and Oracle Media Net. Oracle Media Objects is the leading authoring tool for creating and deploying interactive multimedia applications. Oracle Media Net is the de facto standard for set-top to server communication. The joint intent is to increase the opportunities for software authors developing interactive on-demand services by increasing the range of set-top devices they can target with a single application. Commenting on the announcement, Malcolm Bird, Chief Executive of Online Media, stated: "The Oracle Media Objects environment allows software developers to develop interactive multimedia applications without limiting the set-top devices they can work with. Vitally, however, Oracle Media Objects also makes it possible for the set-top designers to be innovative in their product architectures. New families of products will emerge with additional capabilities but retaining compatibility." Jerry Held, Senior Vice President of Interactive Multimedia Products at Oracle Corporation, commented: "We are pleased to have the support and cooperation of Online Media in the development of components for building the information superhighway. "We feel Online Media has a technology and approach that is complementary to Oracle's and the two companies together will enable a more rapid delivery of interactive multimedia applications to consumers."
