IFEL A5000 8MB Upgrade (top)
IFEL A5000 8MB Upgrade (bottom)
The Acorn A5000 is limited to 4MB which is the maximum memory addressable by a MEMC. However this can be increased by adding a second, slave, MEMC with another 4MB RAM. The IFEL A5000 8MB Upgrade has sockets for 2 MEMCs, one of which is removed from the socket on the motherboard and plugged into the right hand card (top picture) and the board plugged into the MEMC socket on the A5000 motherboard. The left hand card (top picture) has 8 x TMS44400 RAM chips (4 x 1Mbit = 4MB) and, I think, is plugged into the FPA socket on the A5000 motherboard.
Note that this upgrade requires a socketted MEMC which was only available on later A5000s.
